Steven Universe Sapphire GBC Sprite
Hands. Suck. Seriously, I spent around 5 hours just trying to figure out how to make her left hand work.

Anyways, Steven Universe! Yeah! Making this was frustrating at times (coughthehandcough), but I'm really happy with how it turned out overall. Blue is such a fun color to work with.
A lot of the time character design are hard to translate to pixel art due to them having too much detail, especially around the face. Sapphire translated relatively smoothly, thanks to the fact that her mouth is her only visible facial feature.

Pokemon GBC Black White Battle UI Mockup Version 2
So I recently posted a mockup of a Black/White style battle HUD for gen 2 games, but after posting it I can't say I was happy with the way parts of it turned out. So I worked on it a little more, and this is the result! It's a little more traditional in terms of layout compared to the last one, but I think it's a lot more polished. Of course, it still adheres to the limitations of the original hardware.

There's still a lot more for me to do with this project, so stay tuned!

Pokemon GBC Black White Battle UI Mockup
Huzzah, I finally finished this!
I've been working on this project for quite a while now, and I'm glad it's finally done. In case you couldn't tell, this is a mockup of what a Gen 2 Pokemon game would look like with a Gen 5 style battle UI, while still sticking to all the limitations of the Gameboy Color hardware.
I might have more mockups like this in the works, but you'll have to wait to see those. =P (Razz)

Pokemon GSC Devamp Set 5 (Shiny Version)

In case you couldn't tell, these are devamps: modern-style Pokemon sprites edited to fit the style and limitations of the older games. The base sprites I used are from the DS-style 64x64 Pokemon Sprite Resource. It's an awesome resource, so be sure to check it out.
I make my devamps by taking a modern-style base sprite, and then editing it to find a balance between the the newer and older styles, while still minding the limitations of the original hardware. How much that stylistic balance leans to either side varies between sprites.

Haunter, Scyther, Pinsir, and Sentret are are all somewhere in between 56x56 to 64x64 pixels in size. While these would be too big to actually use in an actual gen 2 Pokemon game, here they are.

I use each Pokemon's respective sprite from Pokemon Crystal for both the pallet and as a stylistic reference.
